Thread: Portege X30-B-12F and forggoten HDD password

    Hello,

I have set HDD password on Toshiba Portege X30-B-12F and forggoten the password. As I searched the forums and FAQ there seems to be no way to remove/reset the password even by Toshiba service.

It is mentioned in FAQ that in order to make the machine operate again it would be necessary to replace the HDD (http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ9401AR0000R01.htm). However in Toshiba authorized service in my country (Czech Republic) the technician told me that it would be necessary to replace the mainboard as well which seems strange and is very costly (in fact it is more expensive than to buy whole new computer).

So the question is if the replacement of the HDD would be sufficient to make the machine operate again. Or is it really necessary to replace the mainboard as well?

    Thanks for any reply.

    Z30 or X30?
Either way, its an SSD. No need to replace mainboard.
A data recovery center can remove the SSD password for you.
