    Good morning.

I'm about to purchase a Satellite P50-B-11M, but I'm not sure if Ubuntu/Mint (that I use to work) would work perfectly on this machine, since the Ubuntu Desktop Certified page doesn't list any machine of your brand.

Can you help me? Did someone test the machine on these operating systems? Did Toshiba post the drivers on Ubuntu repositories?

    Thank you.

    Hi

While waiting for a reply from the community, why not try?
Ubuntu is delivered as a live media which allows you to run it as a complete desktop experience without touching whatever is installed on your PC.
You can then verify that relevant devices work.

    Related to Toshiba-drivers.
Linux does not work as Windows in that sense. Drivers are seldom (yes it happens, but very unusual) supplied as separate downloads.
They are normally included in the kernel packages which mean they are available at once.

    Good luck and have fun!
    /Tom

I would like to ensure that machine DOES work before spending almost 1300€! I can see if the store where I'm about to buy it gives me some warranties of return, but I would like to have a response from the Toshiba community too, by the way..

    Ok

Then I can tell you now that a brother to that model, P50T-B (main difference is a touch-display) work almost 100% with Fedora 23.
    I know that's not Ubuntu.
Main difference in this scope is the kernel.
Ubuntu 15.10 uses 4.2 so the hardware should be equally supported (Fedora uses 4.2.5)

All parts worked except the SD-reader.

    Tested:

    - Graphics
    - Sound
    - touchpad
    - USB
    - HDMI (incl sound) (extended & mirrored mode)
    - WLAN
    - Bluetooth
    - backlit keyboard (in case your model got that)
    - Webcam
    - Suspend / Resume
    - Hotkeys

So in general worked very well apart from the SD host as mentioned.
Please note, that this does not imply a warranty for your success of any kind.

    BR Tom

    Hi again

Kernel 4.2.6 recently released. The SD host works now!

wonderful! Thank you. I noticed that the sound card didn't work, but by upgrading the kernel to the version 3.18.x, the sound card works now.
