    Hello,

    I have just been handed the pc Satellite Pro R50-B-14U.
    After I upgraded from 7 to 8.1 and I made updates Toshiba/windows screen randomly goes off and then on again after a second at intervals of about 1/2 hours .
    I tried to uninstall and reinstall the video drivers but the problem persists.

    How do I fix this?

    According notebook specification you got original Win8.1 installations DVD so I presume you have used it for OS installation.
    Have you noticed such problems immediately after OS installation or later after updates installation?

    I think the problems are caused by updates toshiba made ​​with the "service station " but I do not remember what updates did .
    I think that among them there is something about the screen, but definitely were not the driver intel video card intel hd 5500 .

    To me it sounds like a personal guess…
    In my opinion you have to perform a check…

    Recover the notebook back to factory settings using Toshiba recovery disk…
    Set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase…
    Then you can check if the display/screen issue would appear again…

    If it will not appear, then the issue was caused by some software problems.
    If the issue would still appear, you should consider an hardware malfunction…

    In such case it would be interesting to know if the same issue would appear connecting external monitor…

    Feedback would be appreciated.

    I thought the same thing .

    But I wanted to avoid format so as to lose all the programs of my work ( reinstall all occupies about a whole day ) .

    I'm trying various solutions , I warn you if I can solve . if I can not , I format and see if the problem is hardware or software .

    in any case , to better explain the problem , it seems to go in standby and resume after 1 second .

    hello , I think I found the problem .

    Using the PC without battery problem seems to have disappeared .

    I tried to download the update the bios from the site toshiba but start from a compatibility error .

    Do you have ideas to solve the problem ?

    Do you mean the BIOS update issue?

    You said that you received an compatibility error trying to update the BIOS…
    Usually this message appear in case you want to use not compatible BIOS

    hello ,

    I download the update the bios on the site toshiba entering the model of my PC but there are compatibility issues .

    I tried to update the bios because I thought I fix the problem mentioned above, but does not seem to be that.

    Now I tried to uninstall the program Toshiba eco utility and seems to have solved the problem of the screen .

    I am writing to update you on the situation of this problem .

    hello , the problem persists , I tried to format the pc without solving the problem .

    it seems that the screen goes in " protection mode ".

    I'm now trying to update the bios hoping to solve the problem but he failed ( I opened another thread )

    The notebook’s CPU supports Intel HD Graphics 5500

    Why you don’t try to install the latest Intel HD Graphics 5500 driver released on the Intel page?
    Would be interesting to know if it would fix your issue.

    It was one of the first things I tried to do .

    uninstalled and reinstalled the official intel driver .

    i used from Intel driver webpage.

    toshiba website there are not video drivers to win 8.1:

    Did you install the Intel Chipset Utility v 10.0.22 for Win 8.1?

    This chipset utility should contain also the Intel HD 5500 driver

    hello ,

    maybe I could solve the problem because they are about 3 days without it .

    I disabled the option " Intel display power management " from the bios .

    in a few days I will give confirmation and for now seems to be working .
