    Hi everyone

I recently bought a L45-B4182SM and I switched from Windows 8.1 to Linux Mint 17. Everything seemed to work fine. However, brightness control (F3 and F3 keys) do not work. I would like to know if anybody has faced this issue before and if it is possible to fix it.

    Regards to everybody.

    Hi

Under windows F keys functionality is controlled by special tool designed by Toshiba Toshiba function key utility.
As far as I know Toshiba doesn't support Linux so such tool doesn't exist for Linux operating systems.

Im not Linux user but I presume there must be some other option (Linux option) for brightness control.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I assume you are right, the F keys tool it is made for Windows. However, most of the functions actually work (volume, music control, wireless). I've just read a similar issue in another post, I will try that fix and see what happen.

    Hi there

Tell us - does the unit react at all when you are using the brightness-keys?
    If YES:
You may want to test the solution suggested in this thread:

    Good luck

Thank you, Tom. That's the post I was talking about, since Mint is based on Ubuntu, I hope that solution applies to me. As soon as I configure and test, I'll tell you how it was.
    Regards!

Guys, I'm happy to say that reconfiguring the GRUB file worked at all . I cannot see the fancy widget but It actually controls the brightness, even the energy saving function is working and after some minutes of inactivity, the screen decreases the bright.
    Thank you for the replies.
