I have a Satellite L500-1QE and i want to know if i can change my processor to something new, because now i'm using Dual-Core 2.2Ghz T4400.

(I don't know a lot about upgrades thats why i'm asking)

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

You should ensure that new CPU would be handled by the chipset built in the notebook.
I think your notebook supports the Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset.

I checked the Intel page for compatible CPUs and it looks like these CPUs would be supported by chipset:
    • Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor X9100 (6M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9400 (6M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9600 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P9500 (6M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8600 (3M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8400 (3M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor 575 (1M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor 585 (1M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9300 (12M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9800 (6M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8700 (3M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9100 (12M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor T1700 (1M Cache, 1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9550 (6M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor T3100 (1M Cache, 1.90 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P9600 (6M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor T1600 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9900 (6M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8800 (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor 900 (1M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor T3500 (1M Cache, 2.10 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6670 (2M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7570 (3M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P9700 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor T3300 (1M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
    • Intel® Celeron® Processor 925 (1M Cache, 2.30 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

But there is still aquestion regarding the BIOS support… I’m not quite sure if the BIOS would be compatible with all these CPUs…so CPU upgrade is always a tricky thing.

First of all thanks for your answer.

Second, i have to ask you, which of these CPUs are compatible with my BIOS?
Is there a way to find out?

And something else. I read on another topic that i need to know if the wattage is enough, and then change the processor, right?

And something else, CPU-Z says that my chipset is GM45/GM47 and Southbrige is 82801M (ICH9-M) if that helps.

As I posted above; I’m not sure if there would be a compatibility issue between the CPU and BIOS.
And as far as I know such info is not available on Toshiba page…

    I found only this:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ35006D000RR01.htm
+Due to the high integration of the different components of Toshiba Notebooks, and their tested interaction with one another, Toshiba does not offer upgrades or modifications on the major component of their Notebook. The CPU, Display and Mainboard cannot be upgraded through Toshiba, and Toshiba does not recommend upgrades.+

    And this:

    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
+… The CPU is in almost all cases "socketed" which means the CPU is removable from the system board, which does not mean that the part should be exchanged/upgraded or modified by the customer.+
+…In most cases the BIOS does not work with the replaced CPU which causes the machine to malfunction.+

You can test the new CPU at your own risk as it looks like the CPU upgrade is not officially supported... but please share your experience here in the forum.... would be interesting to know if it worked nor not
