I am wondering if the f-secure anti virus is blocking the bios update

i do not want to remove it unless it is the culprit

Before running an BIOS update tool, you should close all running apps in the background and should disable firewalls and antivirus software too!

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed on your notebook.
The VAP is an Toshiba tool package which can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.

For me it looks like something in the software breaks the BIOS update… possibly you would solve this recovering the system back to factory settings but since you have no problems with the BIOS on your notebook its not really necessary to recover the notebook only to check if the BIOS update would work…

As my laptop is pretty standard and is under a year old it has never had any bios updates fitted yet

it has been updated with all the driver updates with no problems but that does not use the software that is used for Bios updates.

maybe in the comming days other people will get the tempro message and try the update and get the same error

I have spent since 1962 working with computers and do not like to concede defeat but this laptop now has two problems that can not be fixed (other is with piriform speccy failing since a update to the program)

shame it does not create a dump to help resolve the problem.

so can toshiba itself help with this problem with a bios update that could be run at boot time rather than when windows is running?

I think Toshiba ASP would be able to help you because they could update the BIOS using traditional BIOS version…
But from my knowledge the technicians always recover the notebook to test if its software related issue…

You have to contact the authorized service provider… how?
You can find an ASP database here:
