    hi,
maybe there is a problem with your battery...low capacity or need for replacement...broken battery can prevent windows from normal start.
in safe mode window doesn't load drivers and thats why you can load safe mode.
    try without battery pack :)
sorry for my english and good luck

With or without the battery, the notebook should run stable connected to the mains…
If it’s not the case, it could be possible that your motherboard is affected… but hopefully its not since this would be the worst case :(

    Hi

Did you try to reinstall the Windows system using the Toshiba recovery disk?
Would recommend to do that in order to eliminate the hardware issue.

I have same problem with my Satellite A300.
I've reinstalled Windows Vista from DVD Recovery, but the problem persists.

Anyway, the laptop works perfectly on batteries... and the AC adapter is not connected.

I'm also reinstalled the recovery DVDs and this doesn't solve the problem

The notebook does not work even after performing the recovery?
    Looks like hardware issue…
    Did you test the HDD?
Check this using an tool called Drive Fitness Test. This would help you to detect HDD issues.

    Hi

    >no , I didn't try to chang my HDD
No, you should test it before doing anything else… I said you could test this using the Drive Fitness Test software.

    >what do u think if I update the BIOS??
The notebook should run even if the BIOS is not up to date… so don’t think that this is a BIOS issue.
Furthermore you cannot update the BIOS if the notebook does not boot and run properly.

    Hi there,

A BIOS update resolves this issue. To do this, on boot- tap F8 (after the POST) and enter safe mode.

Next, go to start > control panel > System > Devices > disable both of the processors and restart.
Insert power, it should now be working. Install BIOS update.

    All should be good. :).

I have the same problem with restarts and ac adapter. Now I'm trying update BIOS but I must first reinstall Vista. I have already wiped the drive but can only install on battery .. no ac adapter. If I fully charge the battery, I can begin the install but the battery dies before I can finish. Please help if you can. This isn't my PC and they are counting on me. I hate to disappoint them.

    Thanks In Advance, Warren

This is a problem related with a bad capacitor called NEC/TOKIN Proadlizer OE907, which needs to be replaced.
You can find a lot of info by googling. For example, search "A200 random shutdown" to find relevant details and links.

Thank You, Notsosure. I thought this was related to BIOS needed update, which I have. Is there any way around so I can update BIOS?

    Thanks, Warren

Anything which reduces workload on the CPU, such as disabling cores, apparently helps but this is a temprorary solution. The permanent solution is to replace the OE907 Proadlizer, which will allow you to use it uniterruptedly on AC power thus facilitating reinstalltion of windows, etc. After that you can update BIOS, if you wish to. BIOS update alone is highly unlikely to solve your problem but it is up to you to try.
