    Hi

You are using an common SATA USB case. Right?
Windows OS should recognize the connected USB HDD automatically and usually it should not be a big problem to get access to the data on this external HDD…
It sounds strange and I assume the HDD is affected…

Did you try to connect this to different PC? Try that too…

    Hi, thanks for your input..

Yes it is a standard Sata case.

Does it sound like the HDD is defective! Just because it is spinning and there is a lovely blue light doesnt necessarily mean its ok.

What is the way forward, new HDD and get another OS Vista disc and admit defeat on the data loss...im running out of avenues!

    Unfortunately… it seems so…

Unfortunately, if you are not able to get access to the HDD, then you will not be able to recover the data. Of course you could purchase an data recovery service in order to rescue the data from damage HDD but not sure how expensive this would be.

    Thanks for that..

It works out at £69 +vat. Unfortunately they cant save any programs you have on the pc only data.
The trouble i have is it means i would lose Word and dont have any backup for it meaning £70 to get it again.
