Toshiba Stor.e TV+ Samba question
Beginner
Hello,
one question to other stor.e TV+ users, what do you get when you open your browse with the IP adress from the stor.e TV+ ?
In the manual on page EN-44 (yes I read manuals ;-)) it should open a website with a samba fileshare interface.
When I open the IP adress of the store then I got only this:
*A simple html+cgi example*
*Enter first number *
*Enter second number*
Best regards
Andre

Hi,
i've got the same problem!
Is here any user with a correct working samba server???
The box-handling is very slow and the remot-controle often fails and the box does react like an
pc with high cpu-usage.
Where can i find a firmware-update????
greetings to toshiba and many thanks for helping us!!!

Yes, same problem here.
Disgrace that there's been no reply, never mind a solution from Toshiba on this.

Hello,
I got a funny answer from Toshiba (but I could post this here since it is not allowed to post germen text in here ?!?!?)
I will try to translate the important sentence +"it is not possible to connect via SMB to the StorE TV+ for example to copy files. For this SMB-Server is necessary"+
But the manual said there is a SMB Server ;-) or in minimum a website to look for the files on the StorE TV+

i have the same problem with the Samba server and have searched various forums without any answers.
all in all the Toshiba Stor.E TV plus is a great device but i hate purchasing a unit that has limitations.
Negatives:
1. The wireless dongle is intermittent and often looses it's connection. Any suggestions?
2. The large File & Directory icons are rather annoying and make it difficult to quickly locate a file when you have several thousand music and video files stored. Any suggestions?
3. Samba Server not working?
Positives:
1. Excellent digital sound output (The best out of several units tested).
2. Large number of file formats supported.
3. Great looking unit.
Hope Toshiba rectify their firmware quickly to maintain a good quality media player.

It looks like our HDD has similar firmware as some other multimedia HDD.
We need to start two services in the HDD linux (BusyBox) in order to see the web page correctly. In this web page we will see not only the access to the HDD file system, but we have a nice BitTorrent client.
So, just when we connect to the home network, we need the HDD ip. With this information, from a pc in the same network, we can get a TELNET to the HDD. Then, we will see something like a "Venus Login", we access with 'root' user and no password.
Now we are in the HDD BusyBox linux. We have to move to '/user/local/bin/package/script' directory (cd /user/local/bin/package/script ). Within this directory we have several scripts, and now we have only to:
- Start the webserver ( ./unicgi start)
- Start the BitTorrent client ( ./bt.script start /user/local/bin/package/btpd /tmp/usbmounts/sdc1/)
Now, just open the web browser in your pc with th HDD ip, and voila!!!
The only problem is that we have to start this services everytime we turn on the HDD

It is not /user, it is /usr.
So write:
cd usr/local/bin/package/script
and then write:
./unicgi start
./bt.script start /usr/local/bin/package/btpd /tmp/usbmounts/sdc1/
Still not able to tranfer large files from pc to storetv+
:(

There is a new firmware available for StorE TV plus:
*Actually its v 2.12_UI1.0*
I read in different forums that this would help to sort out this issue.

Rubbish. This firmware upgrade does not solve the problem. Samba does not work; probably doesn't exist. It would help if real facts based on experience were presented here rather than suppositions and opinions which are then anointed as answers to the problem.

Maybe your message is too long or contains some links causing this issue.
Try to part your instruction is two /three posting…

Use vi editor to add below command to end of file [|usr|local|etc|rcS ]
[|usr|local|bin|package|script|unicgi start]
with above modification and latest firmware, both webserver and samba are working fine and it will be always working even after restart of the box.
Note: I use sign [|] insead of forward slash since I am not fmiliar with forum editor, so you have to replace it.
Need to restart the box to take effect

You are welcome
Also, I noticed you have to put the command at end of profile file under |usr|local|etc
notice the following:
need command in rcS file: to start the service if you have done power cycle
need command in profile: if you just power off/on using remote control.

Fantastic! We are now into Unix and Visual Editors!
This is supposed to be a consumer product for pete's sake.
How many people out there have a vi editor or even know what it is?
If it is so simple to add code to the box to make it work why didn't Toshiba add it in the first place?
Why don't we start a software development group - call it Toshzilla? Maybe we could develop a decent media interface, make the unit work properly and keep geek nuts in ecstasy for years to come. I am lost for words.
