    Hi All,

i have a tecra S3 PTS30-E which has come from the company i work for which was no longer required.

i have replaced the current 40gb hdd with two different ones -

    Western Digital 250 gb WD2500BPVT

    toshiba 120gb - MK1252GSX

I have tried both seperately and windows XP pro service pack 3 will not recognise either one.

i have downloaded sata driver from toshiba website and installed via F6 during boot, windows asks which driver, windows 2000 or XP, i click XP and enter, windows continues until then advising no hard disk found

i have also tried downloading intel drivers after searching other threads and this also does not work via the floppy route.

i have also added toshiba drivers to XP iso using nlite to create a slipstream disk and while xp loads from disk, i noticed "toshiba raid driver" being installed. Same result no hard disk found.

    Can someone help ?

    thanks

    hi,

    > Tecra S3 - new 250gb Sata hdd - windows does not recoginse

According to the specifications on this page:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/toshiba-tecra-s3-s411td/1707-3121_7-31556311.html

Your laptop has Ide interface, as far as I know on old IDE interface there is a 28bit LBA limitation that means the notebook can only handle HDDs up to 128GB.

Can you post whole model number of your notebook?
You can find it at the bottom on the Toshiba sticker.

    Hi kipper9999,

I think you need the RAID driver from the Toshiba driver download page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads

For using these drivers you have create a new bootable Windows disk using nLite or you load it from an external USB FDD during setup.

But the easiest way would be choosing the Toshiba recovery disk. All drivers and tools are preinstalled.

That’s really strange. RAID driver is very important and must be loaded before WXP installation starts.
I don't have experience with WXP SP3 installation but this old Tecra was delivered with SP2. Maybe you should try to use WXP SP2 installation disc and try again. I mean Toshiba people have done the same and it must work somehow.

On Toshiba download page you can also find “Installations Instruction” document. Download it and install all stuff following this installations order. It is very important.
    ----------------------------------------------------
Detailed Instructions for installing the Toshiba RAID Controller Driver on a fresh hard drive
    ================================================== ===========================================
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk.
    2. Attach a USB Floppy Drive to the machine
    3. Insert your Microsoft Windows XP Home/Pro Edition Bootable CD
    4. When the initial setup begins, look for a message at the bottom of the screen that states, "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver..."
    5. Press "F6"
    6. In approximately 30 seconds, the setup will prompt that you have chosen to manually specify an adapter.
    7. Press "S"
    8. Setup will prompt you to insert the driver disk into the A: drive
    9. Select the "TOSHIBA RAID Driver for Windows XP/Win2000"
    10. Setup will return to the same screen as in step #6, but it will show that you have selected the "TOSHIBA RAID driver for Windows XP/Win2000"
    11. Press "Enter" to continue.
    12. Continue the installation of Windows XP as normal

    hi all,

as per my previous posts, i have tried xp raid drivers from the toshiba website without success.

it installs the drivers, then windows continues to install standard drivers off the disk and then it says it cannot find the hard drive

i have tried installing using nlite also without success

i have tried to install windows 7 ( which i know is not supported on this laptop ) , windows xp pro SP3 and also xp home .

my last resort is a support disk - i will pay for one if anyone has one

if not can someone send me a link to buy one from toshiba ?>>>

    HELP

    Hi All,

i have finally found the answer to this REALLY annoying problem.

in order for windows to recognise any of these hard drives i had to change the BIOS to RAID as i do not have a support disk.

    as per the thread below
"Toshiba Tecra S3 - New SSD stuck on JBOD, can't install windows on it
    Posted: 27-May-2010 03:18"

"After looking around, I found that drives in Tecra S3 have to be on "1RAID 0" and not JBOD to enable windows to
be installed on it. (unless you use the recovery CD, which I don't have right now, even if I wanted to use it)

to change from JBOD to RAID in the bios you need to input the string as below when you get a warning about a new OS will have to be installed if you continue

    type in1 2 3 4 enter

    PROBLEM SOLVED

    thanks for your help
