    Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 1IZ and I want to replace my hard drive because I have some bad sectors.

I don't know if my motherboard supports SATA and what version, if I can order a 7200 Rpm, maximum capacity.

    Any advices?

    Thanks'

Me again, I would like to order this HDD Western Digital Scorpio Black, 320GB, SATA, 16MB.

I also contacted my local dealer and they recommended the original HDD Toshiba MK2035GSS 200 GB (4200 rpm!!) for a price about three times bigger than the WD model above.

Is there any logical reason why I should order the original HDD in stead of WD model?

    Hi

As far as I know the Satellite A200 supports SATA 2.5” HDD.

Since SATA controller has no hardware limitation, an usage of all SATA 2.5” HDDs should be possible.

So in my opinion you should be able to use a 500GB 2.5” HDD without any compatibility problems…

PS: Uusally it’s no matter what HDD manufacturer it is but of course there are different HDD manufacturers which provide different HDD standards and a no-name 2.5” HDD would be cheaper as an branded HDD…

    Hi,

i think your motherboard supports sata and can handle 320 Gb hard drive even more. I don't recommend 7200 rpm because it will produce more heat and noise.

Personally, I don't see much difference between them. Wd is pretty good and famous brand. I run Wd hard drive on my desktop almost for 5 years without any troubles.

    Hi

It’s no matter what speed the HDD support. Both are compatible.
But faster HDD should provide better performance… so I would take a 7200rpm HDD…
The heat dissipation might be higher due to fast rotation but I doubt this could affect the notebook….

    Greetings

Personally, I advice you to get 5400 rpm. 7200 rpm hard disk produces more heat and noise. They are good for desktop computers.
