I am trying to upgrade memory on my Satellite A100-529 (PSAA2E). The system was delivered standard with 1x512MB DDR2 PC2-4200. I installed 2x512MB DDR2 PC2 5300 and the system tries to turn on 5x with no success.

All documentation says that DDR RAM is backwards compatible. Will the A100-529 only take PC2 - 4200?

I'm afraid to tell you, that you can only use PC2-4200 Ram for your notebook. According to the manual page 8-3 there you can find three part numbers for Ram to be installed. Looking for those numbers it turns out the PC2-4200 (533Mhz) specifications.

You can upgrade your Ram up to a maximum of 2GB. Hope this helps you.

    I found this useful page:
    [Memory for Toshiba Satellite A100-529|http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=23657&ft=m&st=3]

According to the memory details you have to use the DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM memory modules!

Using another modules you notebook will not boot up correctly or will not run stable!

    Regards
