    The laptop was originally supplied with only 512 MB RAM.

    I have installed 1 GB of Kingston RAM (part no. KTT533D2/1G) into the remaining free memory slot. However, every time I switch on the computer, the system freezes up within a few minutes and I have to re-boot.

    Is this because there is an uneven amount of memory in the 2 slots? Do I need to have 512 MB in each slot or 1 GB in each slot etc?

    I would appreciate your advice.

    Have you tried to change the places and put 1 GB RAM into slot A?

    In my opinion there is definitely an memory module issue….
    So in your case there is only one real solution;
    You have to replace the new memory module with another one…

    Good luck
