    Hi all,

I just want to know how many Toshiba laptop users (specially the Satellite L40, or specially the Atheros chipset users) have a problem with Vista for seeing, connecting, starting the WiFi . For me the problem is around Vista WiFi support and some chipset for ex Atheros bundled into my laptop. Detail : Using WPA/TKIP (important item i think)

Seems to work when i add a Netgear WiFi dongle WG111v3... what a pity with an embedded chipset !!

So who ? when ? with what kind of stuff ?

    Hi

I don’t know about what problems you are speaking but there could be many reasons why the WLan does not work correctly.
For example my notebooks Wlan card which supports the 802.11 A/B does not connect to my router which supports the 802.11 B/G standards. I can connect to other WLans but cannot seem my router.

This is a simply compatibility problem!

Obviously the WiFi counts many parameters.

To be clear : Toshiba Satellite L40-100 with Atheros AR5007EG chipset. Encryption WPA/TKIP. I have also 2 pc with XP/SP2 and Three with UBUNTU Gusty with many different chipset/drivers.

My satellite works fine since the first Vista start until last week (with one time a Wifi break stangely solved by a desinstall/reinstall device...). Last week the WiFi broke down and sometimes i seen the access points, sometimes not, sometime the device does a self-de-activation, sometime the light (of the WiFi button) shuts off without explication, sometime i only seen my neighborhood networks not mine..

I've changed the channel, do many tests, all of my others equipments works well. Try with only WEP encryption and it works ... but how long ?? did'nt had time to check..

I've seen many similar things over the forums on the net. The goal is to make the proof that IT IS NOT A HARDWARE ISSUE. Very strange with Ubuntu it works...

I'm sure that many others VISTA users have the same problems. I just want to share with them.

    Hallo,

I have the same Problem with the built-in Atheros WLAn-Adapter. I have bought a Netgear WG111T USB-Stick and it works.

    Best regards

    Horst

    Hello,

seems to (re)work after applying obscure Microsoft's KB (you have to ask microsoft to have the fix), possibly included in the future SP1 for Vista.

After that downloading the latest driver from Toshiba (15/10 !!)

and... alleluia ! It works but how long ???

Hi, I am have a toshiba equium L40 which has the exact same wifi problems.
i as i purchased this 2 weeks ago i am not too happy about this.
my netgear modem/router is fine as my sons computer can connect to it of using xp.
and my base p/c works ok via the wired lan.
I have down loaded the latest driver for the atheros ar5007eg,but still it will only see the network when it feels like it.
what is the KB number that microsoft require?
    Thanks in advance

    The KB are:

    KB935222, KB932030, KB932063.

I fix AFTER with the new driver (date 15/10 from download site of Toshiba). Hope that the "instability" of the Vista wifi forget my connection !! but as i saw every context should me different (depending on what kind of software/system add on you have)...this is "instability" !!

Hi, Many thanks for the reply, i will email microsoft.

Also for your information the atheros website makes no mention of WPA encription support only WEP which is very poor considering these are fitted to new laptops.

I did try getting access with the encription set to none but it made dam all difference.
The main reason i purchased this laptop was to use it as a second computer when away from home.

No it's wrong when you look at the datasheet of the ar5007eg it's mentioned that it is full WEP+WPA compliant (AES+TKIP).

Datasheet : Integrated WPA supplicant supports Windows® drivers for
Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 ...

It's really a Vista Pb. After some days of experience there is some moment when the wifi broke down but after a reboot come back to nominal duty... so seems to be less "unstable".

    Hi

I am also experiencing the same problem with a new Toshiba Equium L40 - 10X. The card is the Atheros AR5007EG. After 2 weeks the wireless has been giving me problems on a Netgear DG834G router. I've installed the Atheros drivers many times and sometimes it works and some times it doesn't. There doesn't seem to be a pattern or fix. Its most common symptom is saying no available networks but there are many on our street. Then all of a sudden it can work by simply restarting. It is getting worse now to the point it doesn't ever work. I've installed many setups from Atheros which none make any help.

I have requested the 2 of KB's someone has suggested.

Where did you download the latest drivers from Toshiba?

    Hi,

I'm having the exact same problems stated above. Wireless worked flawlessly initially, then after about a day it became intermittent, now it rarely works. You can see all the wireless networks but cannot connect; repair suggests the signal is too weak.

Have run windows update, it has downloaded the latest drivers for both network devices (dated about a week ago as far as I recall), this made no difference.

My laptop is a Satellite Pro L40-12T with the Atheros chipset.

yes I have had MAJOR issues with the wireless also I have a L40 10Z ,,worked fine for 2 weeks then dropped out of device manager (no wireless showing) also the light stopped working, sussed how to get it working SHUTDOWN (DONT DO A RESTART IT DOESNT RESOLVE ISSUE) THEN TURN ON.

Then it works. I have a netgear router in total 3 laptops in house. One with WXO and 2 with Vista. Now I work in IT and have had long phone calls with Toshiba about this.

My believe it is because of Atheros.

Also had an issue with downloading files from main pc at home then stubble across this. It works, go to control panel – programmes - programmes and features - then on left of screen turn windows features on or off

Then UNTICK REMOTE DIFFERENTIAL COMPRESSION –
