Hi,

I bought a Toshiba U400-14P (i-e U400-PSU44E) few weeks ago and I can't install XP on it.

I boot with a XP cd (tweak with nlite where I've added SP3 and my AHCI drivers). But at boot time, the system telling me that's going to try to recognize my hardware and next I've a _dark screen_
I don't have the blue screen where I can press F6 to install the SATA driver.

So that's what I tried to solve my problem :

- Flash the bios => same thing
- Boot with an external usb cd => same thing
- Made plenty of XP cd's tweak with SP2, SP3 wathever => same thing
- Sacrifice a chicken and asking the old spirit to help => same thing :D :D

_Some people tell me that I have a tattooed bios_ How can I bypass this ?

I don't try to boot with a usb floppy disk yet. 'Cause I haven't one and it's so expansive !

Imagine that's it's the same thing. It'll be hard to swallow :(

Thank's for your help.

Hi

May I ask you what SATA drivers you have used?

I’ve got a U400 to and the Win XP has been installed without any bug problems.
The Intel Matrix Storage Manger contains all needed SATA files which should be intergraded into the XP CD.

Yes yes,

First thank's for your reply.

I've used the ICH9M driver...

I've used it too but the real problem is that I can bypass this dark screen. So I can tell XP to used my driver.

That's why I talk about tattoued bios.

Check this thread:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=39465

There user in the other thread has installed the SATA driver using the nLite.
I recommend using the same procedure!

Furthermore set the BIOS settigns to default!

Hi Jeffrey,

Thank's for your help and your reply.
I went to the thread that you told me. But my problem is not a driver's problem nor a nlite's misconfiguration.
What I have is a _dark screen_ when I try to boot with all kind of XP cds.
I DON'T HAVE THE CHOICE TO PRESS THE F6 KEY 'cause I've this dark screen before. And my laptop stay on it hours and hours...

I load the bios default setting and nothing change. That's why I talk about _tatooed bios_

Never hear about tatooed Bios… I think it a internet gossip again…

You DON’T NEED TO PRESS F6 if you have included the SATA drivers using the nLite!!!! After new XP CD has been created with all SATA drivers then you have to boot from this disk and F6 is not needed!!!

However, do you get a blank screen also while booting from Toshiba Vista disk?
If yes then it could be hardware problem and the notebook should be checked.

Bye
