Will the WiFi device in the Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 work with Debian? If not can you recommend a suitable device that will attach to the laptop.

Hi

As far as I know this unit was delivered with a Atheros and Intel WLan card.
I donít know if the Debian supports the right WLan drivers but maybe you will find the Atheros drivers for Linux on the Atheros site and for the Intel Wlan card on the intel site
But you should know that there is no guaranty that it will work properly.

The other possibility is to use the USB WLan sticks.

Hi there, if the A100 is delivered with the Atheros Wifi card I can confirm it will work with Knoppix 3.9 which is also based on Debian. I assume Intel being a big brand name is also supported but I cannot confirm this. What I can tell you is avoid using USB Wifi adapters they are not widely support with Linux and a real pain to get working. To verify that all your hardware is supported type following from a shell box:
lspci
or
cat /proc/pci | more
if you see the words "unknown" then you may have a problem.
